Poetry: Everyday people

Dorothy Budd

We call her "The Dialysis Bandit"
because of the thin cotton mask she wears
when the nurse removes her tubing.
She is a woman who loves to laugh
and she agrees her nickname is much funnier
than calling her Whistler's Mother
simply because
she spends her hours
against a wall
in a recliner
in a nursing home
watching tv
knitting
