Casual clothing for work or play
Most of us who are employed have heard it, "Casual Fridays". So what does that mean really? There's a bevy of explanations, reasons, and plain excuses! In the beginning of my employment careers, the companies I worked for that had a friday dress day, were in for a run of their money. Ok, sure I was the one who took it to the extreme and wore my weekend denim jeans, frayed at the knees or bottoms of the legs, to work but this is what was considered casual in my mind. The definition of casual has matured and changed in this day in age and what's considered casual in one type of industry is not the normal look in all. Careful consideration and respectful steps have to be taken to do this day, this Casual Friday correctly. Every company does not always call it Casual Friday either, sometimes it's Casual day, Denim Days and so on...A great rule of thumb to look appropriate yet still relaxed and put together is to go with the general code of conduct in your company policy and remember that if it feels too breezy, too tight, or it's lacking something DON'T wear it to work.
In retail and restaurant industries, most of these companies have a uniform policy or a dress code that entails you look clean and wear stockings on your legs, not bare legs with skirts/dresses. Therefore this is going to hold true on casual friday. Please don't come in the store with your unshaven legs and toes sticking out of open-toe sandals becasue this is your idea of casual attire. Weekend attire does not a casual friday make. Assessories and articles of clothing you can get away with on the weekend does not carry over well in the business world and especially if you want to still carry that image of whatever the employer's mission is. Dressing is more or less the same as the policy most companies have of doing illegal and illicit things on company property; so should the same thought be when it comes to looking too comfortable at work. If it would get you in trouble off the job, chances are it's going to look bad on the clock. In office and corporate travel settings, the same should go however, tank tops and short shorts are way too inappropriate. Dress for success no matter what and if that means on the Friday you want to get more relaxed, then simply but on a colorful belt or statement piece of jewelry you wouldn't normally wear on that "Casual" day. Men should still have clean-shaven faces and not look overdone with big red eyes and a just hungover composure.
