Where to go for homeschooling curriculum and supplies

Home schooling has become a very viable, effective and popular choice for education in the last few years. Because of this, there is a great market for home schooling supplies and texts.

One of the first things that the home schooling parent should do is visit their state's office of education website or contact someone with the state school board in order to find out if there are any published curricula or learning objectives for your child's age or grade. Some states do have these guidelines readily available.

Next, research different institutions that provide home school materials. A very popular institution for Christian homeschooling texts and supplies is Christian Book Distributors at www.christianbook.com. Another great Christian homeschooling resource in a storefront venue is Mardels Christian Book Store. Both of these institutions have materials for religious studies as well as all other academia. Many other resources are available for strictly secular education.

The Internet auction site www.ebay.com has many vendors with quality homeschooling products. As of the time that this article was written, the website is enforcing that teacher's manuals not be offered for auction. Therefore, this is not a good resource for teacher's manuals but is a great resource for all other supplies.

While researching and selecting materials and supplies for your child, make sure and arm yourself with parental resources that will help you to prepare to teach and interact with your child in a developmentally appropriate manner. "The Secret of Happy Children" is one such non-academic read that will help you maintain a positive dialog with your child.

Also, get in touch with other home schoolers in your community either through library programs or homeschooling groups. Others in your situation can be a wealth of information and low-cost used materials.
