How to boost traffic to your blog

Go Blog Surfing

One of the quickest way to boost traffic to your blog is to visit other blogs and make yourself visible by leaving thoughtful comments. Other bloggers will be curious to see who's reading their blog and are likely to come and visit yours. You never know how many blog readers will end up reading your comment so put some effort into it. Always be polite in your remarks if you want to entice others to visit your blog.

Write Well

Provide useful and interesting content. There are over a million blogs on the Internet right now where the primary topic is the bloggers' children, pets, what they like to eat, etc. There is nothing wrong with this of course, until these same bloggers begin complaining that no one comes to read their blog. You have to ask yourself what information you are offering your readers, and why they would be interested in reading your blog. Serious blogging is just like any other business. In business you need to provide a service to others to gain customers. In blogging the service that you provide is content and your customers are your readers. It is important to not only provide good content but to make sure it is presented in an easy to read way. Use proper grammar, spell check, and read what you've written out loud to pick up mistakes that you might otherwise miss.

Be Search Smart

People are using search engines to look for things that they are interested in or to find out information. It is important to remember this while you are writing articles and posts on your blog. Use keywords so that the search engines will be able to pick up your article when someone is searching for a topic related to your blog post. Always fill out the labels section on each post so that those searching will find your post more easily.

Be Sociable

Make your blog easy to find. Join blog communities like MyBlogLog or BlogCatalog and make friends and contacts. Sign up to Feedburner and Technorati, and don't forget to Ping your blog whenever you update it.

Offer Something Special

Have a contest, a free giveaway, or give your readers a chance to contribute to your blog. Think of all the ways you can help other bloggers to get noticed. Helping other bloggers is the quickest way to make blogging friends, gain new readers, and get the word out that your blog is a great place to check out.

Be Unique

Some people think the way to instant traffic is to copy someone else's already popular blog. Not only will this not work but you'll end up with a bad reputation. The easiest and best thing to do is stick to what you know and love. Make your blog about a subject that you are knowledgeable in. Whether it's about sports cars, teddy bears, or exotic animals, when you blog about something you're passionate about it will attract readers who are interested in the same subjects. Use your own distinct voice, blog design etc. to provide your readers with unique information.

Link a Lot

As you're making friends don't forget to exchange links with other bloggers. You will boost your Technorati popularity rating as well as boost your traffic. Join a blogroll, link to well known blogs, and watch your traffic grow.

Don't Give Up

It will take some time to gain traffic and it's important not to give up too soon. It may take up to a year to begin to see your blogs full potential. Be patient and hang in there. Blogging can be a tough business at times, set goals and focus on where you're headed. With some hard work and dedication you will eventually attract a steady stream of traffic to your blog.
