My first ten years of life were spent in a small village in Central Italy, the Abruzzi-Molise Region. It was an ideal place for children. We were so safe and free to just play. Everyone knew and looked out for each other. My memories are so vivid and simply full of fun. My father and mother were madly in love and were the Romeo and Juliet of the town. I had two older sisters. I was born April 17, l942. My father, Tommaso Ugo Procario, was killed in WWII in Corleone, Sicily near Palermo. He
was in the Bersagliere Unit. We have many photos of him
but Mamma' for over a year did not know whether he was
dead or alive but she always prayed that he would walk in. She found out from another soldier from a nearby village who was in his platoon that he was killed from
the bombs and he saw it and survived. My mother, Adelia, never looked at another man and kept the joy and
love of my father in her heart. Everytime his name would come up she would smile. Mamma' was always joyful but kept her sorrow in her hear. She sang and danced with us as so many widows did in our village and other villages around ours. You would think the town would be plagued with sorrow but I remember people celebrating life with food, drink, music, dance, and laughter.
Mamma' waited until her in laws died and then made plans to come to the USA since her father had been in the USA in Lorain County, Ohio. My sister was in a boarding school in Torino and I was planning to go there so I wasn't so anxious to go to the US but wanted to see Nonno again. The whole village gathered to say goodbye and we were on our way to Naples for a week before
boarding the Andrea Doria in April,1953. The ship was enormous and so interesting. What an adventure! We docked in New York City Port early May greeted by Zio Florideo, one of my father's brothers with loads of relatives from the Procario's side. I loved New York!
We stayed a week and took a train to Lorain, Ohio
greeted by loads of relatives on my mother's side.
I was immersed in the American Culture and Italy was my past. Too much was always happening in the moment to think of the past.
In l965 I graduated from Ohio University: Athens, Ohio and got my Masters Degree from St. Meinrad Abbey Seminary in 1980. Meantime I also took several other classes from various universities to add to my teaching certifications and to pursue my interests. I loved the university life with a passion. From 1963 to 73 I returned to Italy several times and of course to my village I loved so dearly. Europe was so breathtaking. Teaching allowed me to return often. One trip I also went to the Canary Islands and on the coast of Africa. When I went to the Holy Land I could see why JESUS chose to be born there and stay there. Lourdes and Fatima were supernatural. While I explored my calling to the religious life in both active and cloistered community as well as being open to the priesthood if it would become open to women, I married in May 2, 1981 to my wonderful husband, David. My son and daughter are the greatest miracle I have experienced in my life as well as the greatest joy in my life. Luckily I was able to rear them myself because I know I couldn't have left the rearing to someone else nor could I have separated from them. I thank GOD to have been able to do it financially. I worked very little to help out some friends when they were in school. Amherst, Ohio was an ideal place to raise a family! Hilton Head, South Carolina was our second home and we literally stayed on the Atlantic in Beach & Tennis Resort. We as a family are Ocean Lovers. The bathroom was the only place we did not see the ocean. My husband, son, and I still live in Lorain County and my daughter lives in Orange County we go often as a family and on my own. If my husband and son would not be such Buckeyes I would be living there. It is PARADISE on EARTH...but most of all because I enjoy being with my daughter.

REMARKS ON EAST-WEST RELATIONS AT THE BRADENBURG GATE IN WEST BERLIN ON JUNE 12, 1987 are the most powerful remarks made to the whole world revealing the 20th. century tensions of the east and west. PRESIDENT REAGAN expressed what all free and unfree people felt in their heart. When I visited the wall in the sixties and also went across on a tour beyond CHECK-POINT CHARLIE, I and the others I was with were generally silent as we went through the procedures in going across and then taken for a bus tour. Little did we know that OUR PRESIDENT WOULD MAKE SUCH A MEMORABLE SPEECH revealing the ye...
